SparkClass is a class-centred learning web app from Page and Portal for New Zealand electrical training. This policy explains what information we handle when you use the service.

Who this applies to

Students and trainers using SparkClass with a class
Primary admin trainers and content administrators who manage tutors or publish practice content

Information we collect

Account and profile

Email address and password (authentication handled by our auth provider)
First name and last name (used for roster and teaching views)
Display name shown to classmates in group surfaces is typically first name + surname initial (for example, James A.)

Class and learning activity

Class membership and role (student or trainer)
Practice attempts and scores
Live session joins, answers, and related timing used for the session experience
Class Q&A posts and replies, including whether a post was marked anonymous

Anonymous Q&A

You may choose to post questions anonymously to classmates
Author identity is still stored so the service can work and so staff can moderate safely
Identity on anonymous posts is not shown by default to peers or staff
A trainer, primary admin trainer, or content admin may use Reveal for moderation; those reveals are audit-logged

Technical and hosting data

Standard server and security logs needed to run and protect the service
Session cookies or tokens required to keep you signed in

How we use information

Provide practice, live sessions, Q&A, and trainer tools
Show trainers per-student progress for their own class
Moderate content and investigate abuse or safety issues
Maintain security, reliability, and support

We do not sell personal information.

SparkClass relies on service providers to operate:

Google Gemini / OpenAI ChatGPT (Explore handoff)	Optional “Explore” opens an external AI site with a prefilled prompt or clipboard text. That handoff happens in your browser; we do not send your name or email as part of the Explore prompt by design

Those providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. We configure regional choices (Sydney database) where available to keep learning data closer to New Zealand users.

Data retention

We keep account, class, and learning records while your account and class need them for the service. If you want deletion or export, contact us at the email below. We may retain limited audit or security records where needed for safety, abuse investigation, or legal obligations.

Your rights and choices

Depending on applicable law (including the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020), you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold. Contact pageandportal@gmail.com.

Trainers and organisations remain responsible for how they enrol learners (including under-18 students) and for any school or provider consent requirements.

Children’s privacy

SparkClass is used in training contexts that may include learners under 18. It is intended for use through a class organised by a trainer or training provider, not as a general consumer app for young children. Providers should obtain any parental or organisational consent their policies require.

Security

We use industry-standard measures appropriate to a hosted web app, including encrypted transport (HTTPS), authenticated access, and database access controls (including row-level security patterns). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as SparkClass evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may also be noted on the app or this website.
